History of the Weedpatch Government Camp
First established in 1936 Bakersfield, California, the Weedpatch Government Camp was utilized as a housing complex for accommodating migrant workers. The reason for the camp's establishment was to accommodate migrant workers from across the country being paid incredibly low wages to the point where they themselves could not afford decent dwellings as well as sustenance for themselves and their families. Today, it is still a government housing complex for many migrant workers living in the state of California; and now is a registered historic US landmark, symbolizing the struggle of migrant Americans in the Great Depression.
